ALMOST 350 MILLION USD FOR SOTHEBY'S SALE OF IMPRESSIONIST AND MODERN ART

Sotheby's sale of Impressionist and modern art held on May 14 in New York yielded 349.85 million USD with 90.9 % of lots sold and a record set at 110,747,000 USD for Claude Monet's Les Meules painted in 1890.

Pablo Picasso's Femme au Chien fetched (1962) was bought for 54,936,000 USD by Wynn Fine Art LCC while the artist's Mousquetaire à la pipe (1968) went for 20,76 million USD to an Asian private museum.

Gustave Caillebotte's Rue Halévy, vue du sixième étage (1878) sold for 13,932,000 USD while Chaïm Soutine's La Femme en Rouge (1923-24) fetched 10,970,600.

Fernand Léger's Le Campeur, 1er état (1954) sold for 8,23 million, Paul Gauguin's Chemin sous les palmiers went for the same price and Pablo Picasso's Nu au Chapeau (1965) found a buyer for 8,04 million.

Paul Signac's Antibes, Soir (1903) sold for 7,66 million USD and Mac Chagall's Le Paysan (oil and watercolor on canvas, 1956-66) fetched 7,55 million against a high estimate of 6 million USD.
