Redko, Clement (Kliment) Birth - Death : 1897-1956 Nationality : Ukrainian
Redko studied painting in Petrograd between 1914 and 1919. He pursued his studies in Kiev, where he started to work with several Jewish avant-garde painters. He then settled in Moscow and exhibited his works there before working from 1927 to 1935 in Paris, where he showed his paintings at the Salons des Independants, d'Automne and of the Tuileries. During the 1920s, Redko showed an interest in technology and symbolised industrial civilisation in his works. Back in Moscow in 1935, he gave up his abstract researches, notably in the development of synthetic light, and painted landscapes in a figurative manner.

Much inspired by Buddhist art he had an exhibition at the Jewish Museum in New York in 1966. He was considered as one of the pioneers of Minimal art.
