Rappoport, Alexander Iosifovich

Nationality : Russian
Painter. Rappoport founded in 1984 Battle Elephants\", an underground society of artists, writers and intellectuals in the Soviet Union. During many years he only could show his works in a clandestine way and became known after the Perestroika. "

Painter. Raskin produced many Jewish-related scenes during his career.
Ratner, Phillip
Birth - Death : Active from the last third of the 20th Century
Nationality : American
He has worked as a multi-media artist and notably opened in 1984 the Israel Bible Museum in Safed. Ratner has spent most of his time developing over 250 works of art on the Bible in sculpture, paintings and graphics and has taken part in many exhibitions since 1972.
Rattner, Abraham
Birth - Death : 1895-1978
Nationality : American
Rattner studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington in 1914 and in 1917 at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Toward the end of the First World War he served in the U.S army in France and studied in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and the Academie Ranson. In 1922 he lived and painted in Giverny, outside Paris, and then moved to Montmartre. Much influenced by Picasso and Gromaire, he took part in many exhibitions in Paris before 1940. When the Nazis occupied Paris, he returned to the U.S, settling down in New York and opened his own school in East Hampton in 1956. He notably produced a work entitled “Six Million”.

Nationality : Israeli
Ilana Raviv attended the Art Student league in New York from 1980 until 1984 and then worked in Tel Aviv as a painter. She took part in many exhibitions in the U.S and in Israel and also produced clay sculptures.

Redlich produced paintings and engravings representing Jewish scenes. He was considered as a pioneer of the Polish School of engraving on copper.
Refregier, Anton

Nationality : Russian
Refregier first studied sculpture in Paris before frequenting the Rhode Island School of design during four years. He also studied with Hans Hofmann in Munich and taught at the American Artist's School and later at the University of Arkansas and the Institute of Fine Arts in Cleveland. Working as a painter of murals and as an illustrator, he notably decorated some synagogues in the U.S. Refrieger produced many social themes and campaigned in favour of persecuted minorities.

Regenbogen studied painting at the Academy in Cracow between 1917 and 1920 and became a member of the association of Jewish artists there. He exhibited his works, notably Judaic scenes, in 1930 and 1937.

Reicher, Mordecai

Reicher settled down the U.S in 1910, where he suffered years of hardship before concentrating his energies on mastering the traditional technique of the paper cut.

Painter. Steffa Reis was educated in England, where she studied art at the Harrow School. She settled in Israel in 1957 and studied under Marcel Janco and Yaacov Wechsler. Residing in the Artists Colony of Safed, she produced abstracts works mainly.
