Dobrinsky, Isaac Birth - Death : 1891-1973 Nationality : Lithuanian
Dobrinsky first studied in a Talmudic school near Kiev after his father died when he was still a child. He settled in Paris in 1912 and studied at the Academie Colarossi. He first worked as a sculptor and turned to painting in 1917. A friend of Modigliani, Indenbaum, Mintchine, Blond, Segal and Soutine, he produced paintings in an Expressionist manner without the violence expressed by the latter. Dobrinsky first exhibited his works at the Salon d'Automne in 1914 and then took part in many exhibitions in France. After the Second World War, which he spent in hiding in Bergerac, southwest France, he painted many portraits of children whose parents had been murdered by the Nazis.
