Tivoli, Serafino da Birth - Death : 1826-1892 Nationality : Italian
Serafino da Tivoli studied literature in Florence at twelve but soon turned to painting. He then fought with the liberation army led by Garibaldi and was held as a prisoner in Rome. After his release, he then visited Paris in 1855 and London before settling in the French capital, where he painted views and landscapes during the 1870s. Much impressed by Delacroix and painters of the school of Barbizon during his first stay in Paris, he had much influence over Italian painters of his time who evolved towards a particular form of Impressionism. Da Tivoli exhibited his works at the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris.

He founded the “Panique” group in 1962 with Arrabal and Jacques Sternberg and took part in many exhibitions in Paris, London, Brussels, Berlin, Zurich, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Jerusalem and Stockholm from 1957. Many books containing his drawings were published in France and abroad.

Tschacbasov, Nahum Birth - Death : 1899-1984 Nationality : Russian then American
Born in Baku, Russia, Tschacbasov was the second of nine children. During the Revolution of 1905 his father immigrated to Chicago, where his family joined him two years later and used the name of Licterman. He studied electrical engineering at night while working to help support his family in 1913 and served in the Navy during the First World War. Tschacbasov then operated his own firm and lived in 1929 in New York, where he became interested in drawing and painting. He began to study art in Chicago in 1930 and left for Paris in 1932 where he worked with Leopold Gottlieb, Marcel Gromaire and Fernand Leger. Tschacbasov's first solo exhibition was held at the Galerie Zak two years later while Cubism and the style of the School of Paris much influenced him. After settling in New York in 1934, he turned to subjects of daily life and along Mark Rothko, Joseph Solman and Adolph Gottlieb he founded the group “The Ten” in 1935. In 1940 Tschacbasov took up photography after beginning Jungian psychoanalysis that had a profound effect on his work.
Tselkov, Oleg Birth - Death : 1934- Nationality : Russian
Tselkov studied stage design for a short period in 1954 at the Minsk Institute of Arts from which he was expelled for “formalism”. Two years later, he attended the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts but was also expelled on the same charge. He took part in the 1957 Third Exhibition of Works by Young Artists of Moscow and graduated in 1958 from the Leningrad Theatre Institute. In the early 1960s, he began painting deformed masks and figures emerging from apparently liquid color fields. Since the 1960s, Tselkov has concentrated on producing works intended as metaphors for the human condition. He took part in the Modern Russian Art exhibition in 1976 in Paris, where he settled in 1978. Tselkov had a solo exhibition in 1985 at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Turetsky, Boris Zakharovich Birth - Death : 1928- Nationality : Russian
Turetsky studied painting in Voronezh from 1939 until 1941 and entered the Savitsky Art School in Penza in 1946 before frequenting the Moscow School of Art. In the 1950s, he began to create abstract compositions in ink on paper limiting his palette to black and white. Around 1962, he also produced figurative works but from 1975 to 1983 his work was interrupted by illness. He then resumed his activities producing small abstract graphics and paper compositions. He had solo exhibitions at the Hermitage in Troitsk in 1988 and at the Central Artists' House in Moscow in 1993.
