because of a reference in the Bible to Abraham destroying statues of
pagan gods, Jewish artists refrained from producing sculptures
representing humans until at least the 19th Century. It was only after
1880, when many Jews benefited from the emancipation process in Central
and Eastern Europe that they felt inclined to turn to this form of art.Many
Jewish artists worked as sculptors during the 19th and 20th Century,
some of them became quite famous like Chana Orlov, Jacques Lipchitz,
Elie Nadelman or Jacob Epstein among others.

Tal produced sculpture and video works.
Tamari, S. Birth - Death : 20th Century Nationality : Russian
Tamari stayed briefly in Palestine before settling in France in 1946. He exhibited his works representing animals in Paris and the U.S between 1946 and 1970. This artist also produced assemblages with various objects cast in bronze.

Tevet, Nachum Birth - Death : 1946- Nationality : Israeli
Tevet studied art at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv between 1969 and 1971 and taught from 1980 at the Bezalel School in Jerusalem. Working as a sculptor of assemblages, he exhibited his works in Israel, in New York and in Germany from 1979. His sculptures were made of recycled or salvaged objects in relation with order and chaos. Tevet was awarded the 1986 Sandberg Prize.

Tokatly, Talia Birth - Death : 1949- Nationality : Israeli
Tokatly studied at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem between 1973 and 1976 before teaching at the Youth Wing of the Israel Museum. Producing ceramic works, she took part in several exhibitions in Israel, in Italy and in Yugoslavia.

Tordjmann produced many pieces based on Judaic-related themes. He notably offered one of his works titled “The Errant Jew” for an auction sale held on November 28th 2002 in Paris in favour of the Appel Unifie Juif de France organisation.

Tsabar notably produced mosaic works in Israel.
Tumarkin, Igael Birth - Death : 1933- Nationality : Israeli
Tumarkin was born in Germany to an “Aryan” father and a Jewish mother who fled with him to Palestine before World War Two. Tumarkin produced many monuments dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust, which were erected in Israel, in Europe and in the United States. The Yad Vashem Memorial of the Holocaust committee in Jerusalem withdrew in 1998 the $ 5,000 Sussman Prize it had awarded to the artist as a result of pressures from orthodox leaders who accused Tumarkin of serious defamatory remarks against them. Tumarkin exhibited his works in Israel and in many countries from 1956.
