After settling down in 1928 in Palestine, Claire Yanive studied painting under Yitzhak Frenkel between 1939 and 1941 and then under Stematsky and Streichman in Tel Aviv up to the War of Independence. She was among the founders of the Ein-Hod Artists village and of the group of Ten. Yanive took part in many exhibitions in Israel.

Son of Michel Kiko‹ne, he briefly studied painting in 1938 in Paris before seeking refuge in Toulouse, where he studied geology during the Second World War. He seriously devoted himself to painting in 1950 and took part from 1952 in several exhibitions in Paris and abroad, notably in Tel Aviv in 1966. Influenced by Gruber, Lorjou and Buffet, he produced works that moved from pure Expressionism to Abstract Expressionism in the early 1960s. Yankel painted a few Jewish scenes during his career.

Yudovin, Solomon or Shlomo Borisovich Birth - Death : 1892-1954 Nationality : Russian
Born in the small shtetl of Beshenkovichi of the Vitebsk Gubernia, Yudovin showed an interest in drawing at a very young age and was noticed by Yehuda Penn, one of the famous Jewish artists of the time, who took him under his wing. In 1910 Yudovin went to Saint Petersburg to study painting but soon had to find a work to earn a living. He had his first exhibition in Petrograd in 1917 and then produced an album of Jewish ornaments, a theme that remained important in his work throughout his career. Yudovin continued his education with two established artists, M. Bernshtein and M. Druzhinsky. After 1920 he worked solely as a printmaker and illustrator and frequented Chagall's school in Vitebsk until 1923. He had his first solo exhibition in 1926 in Vitebsk and also acted as caretaker for the An-sky collection of ritual objects deposited at the Jewish National Museum in Petrograd until this institution was closed down in 1928. During World War Two, Yudovin stayed in Leningrad, which was besieged by German troops and depicted those harsh days in a set of engravings called “Leningrad in the days of the Great patriotic War”.
