Painter. Geula Dagan studied at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem under Mordecai Ardon and lived in Israel until 1949. She then settled in Paris, where she worked with Ossip Zadkine. She also worked in Spain, Portugal, England, Ireland, Greece and the U.S. Some of her paintings are on permanent display at the museums of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Daghani, Arnold Birth - Death : 1909-? Nationality : Rumanian
Daghani was deported to the ghetto of Ladijin in Rumania in June 1942 and then to the labour camp of Mihailovka. In September 1942, he was transferred to the Tarasivka camp, where all inmates, except for about seventeen people who escaped, were executed in December 1942. Daghani escaped in July 1943 and reached Bucharest a few weeks later. He then completed over fifty drawings of the camps and ghettos, where he had been interned. During his detention, many German soldiers, SS men and policemen requested that he paint their portraits. Daghani settled in Switzerland after the war. Many of his pictures, showing Jewish detainees, survived and are now in Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.

She first studied dancing in Buenos Aires and took part in several dance festivals in Argentina and abroad before she immigrated in 1962 to Israel where she studied at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv. She then worked as a painter and had several solo shows in Israel as well as in Buenos Aires from 1969.

Danziger, Itzhak Birth - Death : 1916-1977 Nationality : German then Israeli
Born in Berlin, Danziger settled with his family in Jerusalem in 1923. He studied sculpture at the Bezalel School between 1929 and 1933 and at the Slade School in London from 1934 to 1938. Back in Tel Aviv he started to produce important sculptures and was awarded the Dizengoff prize in 1945. He then worked with Zadkine in Paris in 1946 and after his return in Israel in 1955 moved toward total abstraction during the 1960s. In 1968, Danziger was commissioned to execute a monumental sculpture for the Olympic Games in Mexico and received the Israel Prize before being awarded the Sandberg Prize the following year. He moved from sculpture to town planning and ecological projects during the 1980s. Danziger has been considered as one of the most influential sculptors in Israel - see also Sculpture section
Darmon, Aaron M. called MAD Birth - Death : 1945- Nationality : British
MAD has been working as an amateur painter after studying under Henri Goetz in 1968 in Paris. Better known as a journalist and art critic, he notably painted a ceiling with elements taken from works by several masters, including Chagall, Delaunay, Matisse, Picasso, Keith Haring, Rembrandt, Magritte, Chaissac and Lichtenstein. MAD, who started to collect art pieces from the age of 12, also produced realist and abstract works.

Born in Bucharest, Jean David studied in Paris before immigrating to Israel in 1942 after escaping from his country in a decrepit sailboat. After being deported to Cyprus by the British he eventually enlisted in the British army and later in the Israeli Navy. Jean David, who studied art in Rumania and was closely acquainted with artists of the Dada movement, became one of the most popular Israeli artists in the 1960s and 70s. Earlier in his career he befriended Victor Brauner and his work often shares an affinity with that of the latter and Max Ernst although his images are more optimistic. Jean David mastered different media, such as pencil and India ink, watercolor, pastel, oil painting and collage. He notably decorated passenger liners, airplanes, and public buildings and also designed carpets, tourist posters, stamps, and coins besides producing prints.

Deutsch notably painted synagogues in North and South America. He strove to revive the soul of the no longer used synagogues in Rumania. Living in Argentina, he was incarcerated with his wife Elena for a while during the troubles in that country. After settling in Los Angeles he created Judaica items.

Digorka settled with his family in Israel in 1979 and became a painter a few years later. He started to exhibit his works in Israel in 1993 and also at the Salon d'Automne in 2000 in Paris. Digorka produced paintings with figures surrounded by geometric forms.
